Visiting Fellowships
Due to budget cuts related to Penn State’s overall financial situation, CHI’s Visiting Fellow program has been indefinitely suspended.
Each year CHI offers up to three visiting fellowships to scholars from outside Penn State. Fellows pursue their own research and writing, while helping to create a vibrant intellectual community. Fellowship applicants must have a PhD or equivalent scholarly credentials along with a record of peer-reviewed work. Emerging scholars as well as senior scholars are encouraged to apply. Applicants from all parts of the world are welcome; U.S. citizenship is not a requirement. CHI also encourages co-applications from groups of two or more people working on a single project.
Financial support for Fellows depends on current salary and rank. Junior Fellowships are usually offered for a two-year period. Junior Fellows teach one course per year, at the graduate or undergraduate level, in a department appropriate to their disciplinary training. Senior Fellowships are offered for one year and carry no teaching obligation. All Fellows receive modest research/travel funding. Currently salaries for all Fellows are approximately $50,000. Applications for Visiting Fellowships are usually announced in the Fall semester, with a deadline in January.
