This paper looks to several figures and formations in post-WWII literature—including Flann O’Brien, the Dalkey Archive Press, Gayatri Spivak, and Felipe Alfau—who have drawn on the problem of textual overabundance in order to theorize about literary assembling as a method of comparison. While my paper focuses primarily on printed media, especially the novel and the backlist of an American publisher, this paper should engage those interested in literary comparison, remediation, and textual methodologies that double as theories for assessing literature today.
